I am the owner of Coulter Road Flowers and I feel very grateful to have grown up in a family where gardening, growing and fresh produce were just part of everyday life.

When we stayed with our grandparents, grandad would be out growing runner beans or turning the compost, while grandma and I collected seeds and tucked them into old envelopes and stored on top of the fridge. In summer their little backyard would be overflowing, with a wallop sweet peas in bloom.

Later when my parents moved to a house in the countryside, my sister and I climbed apple trees, picked cooking apples and foraged for hazelnuts - sometimes digging around the trees to steal the ones the squirrels had carefully hidden for winter! I suppose growing has always been there in the background.

Now I still marvel every time I open up a seed packet and see those tiny seeds. It's hard to comprehend how something so small can become a beautiful, robust plant. Each one has its own requirements to germinate and thrive, and there's always something new to learn. Working closely with nature certainly has its challenges but it feels like the right place for me to. be. Its where I reconnect, clear my thinking and find perspective. Even after sowing, growing and waiting, I still never quite believe I'm going to have flowers until they actually bloom. It feels like a little miracle every time, and I don't think I'll ever stop being in awe of it.
